'The season promises to be as interesting and exciting as any in the past with very accomplished musicians performing as soloists or as members of ensembles. Once again, with the support of “Orchestras Live” we are able to offer an orchestral concert ... The new season brings with it an initiative - subscription members will be able to bring a non-member to one concert in the season absolutely free of charge ... Cockermouth Music Society is a successful society and we want to make it even more successful for the benefit of artists and audiences alike. Every year we provide a platform for local young musicians to perform in our Young Persons Concert.'

‘We are a community choir of mixed voices from Workington and the surrounding districts ...We perform several concerts throughout the year in Workington and the local areas using facilities such as theatres, churches, museums, village and church halls. The range of music in the choir repertoire is varied and encompasses classical choral works, sacred music and anthems of all periods, including: 16th to 21st centuries, folk songs, songs from the shows, jazz and pop music. We have had several pieces of music composed for us, and we also have commissioned works.’

'The Society was founded in 1867, making it one of the oldest choral societies in the country - second only to the illustrious Huddersfield Choral Society, founded in 1836 ... Everyone is welcome to join at any time. You don’t have to audition, be a trained singer. All you need is a love of music, a good ear and loads of enthusiasm. Joining a choir can help you improve singing technique and, as a bonus, it’s a fantastic way to exercise. Our members come from all walks of life and all age ranges ...'

Founded 1825: 'A large band of usually 30 or more players. We usually perform three well supported concerts per year, as well as representing the town and its regular calendar of ceremonies ... We do not take part in brass band competitions which means that we don’t have to turn folk away because we are oversubscribed e.g. we currently have up to five Baritone Horn players; we just take it in turn to stay tacit in the quiet sections!  We also have a linked Apprentice Band for both young players and adult beginners ... We are well equipped with instruments and can usually lend people an instrument. We prioritise young people when it comes to lending an instrument.'

'The historic Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre is one of Workington’s much loved buildings and West Cumbria’s premier theatre, entertainment and arts centre. We programme a diverse range of performances, shows and events across the year featuring family shows, comedy, music, opera, ballet, lectures and spoken word events, rock and pop concerts and musicals from the professional touring circuit and from community based performers. The Carnegie Arts Centre is also home to weekly arts participatory classes and workshops featuring ballet, tap, modern and street dance, singing, acting, musicianship ...'

‘The Kirkgate Centre is a vibrant community arts centre. Converted from the former derelict All Saints School 15 years ago, it is now Cockermouth's main arts venue with a 125 seat theatre/cinema and exhibition space.’
