'Formed in 1966, as the Bournemouth branch of The Hammond Organ Society, under the chairmanship of Mr. Sydney Webb, the interest was such that by late 1967 it was becoming clear that the appointment of a committee was desirable. Subscriptions at that time were set at 1 guinea for the first member of a family with half a guinea for additional family members. Meetings were held in Hotels in the Bournemouth area ... We continue to enjoy a healthy membership, and can almost guarantee a full house for visiting artistes. An invitation is warmly extended to visitors at each concert where we endeavour to accommodate everyone.'

‘HCO artists are young singers usually in the later stages of study at music conservatoires or recently launched in their careers ... Inaugurating in 2018, the “Hurn Court Opera Singing Competition” provides an important platform for young vocal talent. It also provides a key to future performance opportunities with HCO, and offers the chance to develop over a period of time under the supporting wing of the professionals associated with the company.‘

Formerly used the Verwood Memorial Hall but has given monthly concerts in the Verwood HUB since its opening in 2007: ‘With the larger venue concerts are now open to the general public - there's always space! The Society prides itself on being a “Happy Society” that draws its strength by working together as a friendly Committee - a point that has been noted and commented upon many times by visiting artistes.’

‘A friendly and sociable choir with approximately 20 members. Many of us also sing in other local sacred and secular choirs and several were members of the former Wimborne based Wessex Singers ... We perform, mainly in churches, all around Dorset. Much of our repertoire is a capella, although from time to time we also perform with piano or organ accompaniment. Our choir membership is fairly stable, though from time to time we do have vacancies for new members.  We would expect new members to have previous experience of singing in similar small choirs, and to be reasonable sight readers.’

'The choir rehearse regularly throughout the year, putting on a number of concerts to raise money for local charities and the occasional flash mob! ... Our repertoire is varied and includes "classic" pop, songs from the shows, inspirational songs, some jazz and gospel. We strive for great singing whilst having fun! We'd love to welcome you to our very friendly choir.' This Wimborne Minster based Choir seems to have been presented under a variety of names since it was formed in 2013, including The LEAF Choir; The Choir on the Hill; VIVA Voices.

'The current membership of the choir numbers about 80 singers in 4 voices - Soprano, Contralto, Tenor and Bass. Membership is open, without audition, to all who enjoy singing and new members, especially tenors, are always welcome ... Three concerts are normally performed each year in the Minster Church: in early December, late March and late June. Choral Workshops are frequently provided for members and sometimes also for the wider public.'

‘We are a true community orchestra, so we aim never to turn anyone away, or to have limits on the number of instruments in any section ... We do not require any particular grades, just a reasonable knowledge of the instrument and a willingness to join in and make music with others. All the usual orchestral instruments are represented, as well as brass band instruments and saxophones. (Suitably transposed parts are provided.) We currently have about 80 members, with an average of around 50 - 60 players attending each week ... Giving concerts is not our primary purpose, though we do aim to give our members concert experience when possible, and are always ready to support a local charity when we can, including putting together small groups for special events.’

‘The Minster has a lively musical life, and there are four groups involved in leading our worship: Minster Choir; Songbirds (Junior Choir); Informal Worship Music Group; Alternative Choir ... It has an important place in civic life, is a venue for concerts and school events, and draws large congregations for Remembrance, Carol Services and other special services. Most important, it is still a centre of spiritual life for many as it has been for over 1300 years.‘
