'Music is for everyone whatever your age 5 or 95; whether you're a beginner, relearning or have years of experience we provide an opportunity for everyone who has learnt to play an instrument to enjoy making music together. Orchestra, bands and ensembles are led by experienced musicians and there are opportunities to play in concerts as well as weekly rehearsals. There are groups for players of all standards and all ages and you do not need any previous experience of playing in ensembles, orchestras or bands.'

‘Formed in April 2007 as a community group whose aims are to encourage people of all ages to become interested in brass banding, leading to playing in the band and taking part in events around West Cumbria, including Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth, Egremont, Cleator Moor and surrounding areas ... Our band members range in age from juniors to over 80 years of age. We are of mixed playing ability, striving at all times to achieve a high musical standard.  We all gain much satisfaction and pleasure from playing both in rehearsals and public performances.‘

‘We sing a mixture of music ranging from Oratorio and Opera Choruses down through Gilbert & Sullivan, Modern Musicals, American Spirituals, Folk Songs and Christmas Carols. We sing music from a vast array of composers including: Bach, Beethoven, Bizet, Faure, Gilbert & Sullivan, Handel, Loesser, Mozart, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Rutter, Simon & Garfunkel, Vivaldi and many more. We usually perform 3 times a year - a concert in the autumn, one at Christmas and one near Easter. We are not a religious choir, but we enjoy singing both religious and secular music.‘

‘An amateur orchestra rehearsing in Gosforth and currently giving three concerts per year. The orchestra has 20-30 local members who attend rehearsals, to which we sometimes add a number of extra players for concerts, although we prefer to play as a purely amateur orchestra where possible ... We are always on the lookout for new players, particularly strings. If you play at a reasonable level (grade 6 or above as a guide) and would be interested in applying for a place, please contact us.‘

‘Founded in 1977, the present Whitehaven Male Voice Choir has established an enviable reputation among the musical world of male voices in Britain, along with appearances on local radio and television. During the Choir’s existence, it has taken part in many musical festivals and proven its quality by winning many first prizes, has been joined in concert by world renowned soloists and choirs from Britain and America; and is proud to have helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.’

‘Housed in the old mineworkers’ buildings the Arts Centre incorporates many spaces, from a small café, a Gallery, workshops and an 80-seat auditorium with full professional lighting and sound equipment. The schedule of events marries visual and performing arts across a broad spectrum, attracting local, national and international artists.’

‘The Solway Hall is based inside The Civic Hall. We are a community venue hosting shows and events ran by volunteers for the benefit of the public ... Civic Hall is White haven's only theatre venue located just a stone’s throw from the town centre. Run by Rosehill Youth Theatre, a registered charity, we operate on the support of the local community.’
