With a current membership of over 100 “Ukers”, this friendly, fun-loving group, gathers every week to sing and play the ukulele ... The Nottingham Ukulele Orchestra ‘is the performing wing of the Nottingham Ukulele Club’.

Launched 2011: ‘The Folk Club meets once a month ... In our madness, once or twice a year we will organise a whole day of folk music. We generally start off with a singaround and music session in the morning then have two afternoon concerts featuring some of the best local performers and a big concert in the evening to finish off the day’.

'Formed in 1972 by Neville Ward from a choral class at Toot Hill School, Bingham. Its aim is "to educate and interest the public in music, particularly choral music, by the presentation of concerts and other activities". The original membership of 40 has now increased to around 90, with singers coming from a wide area of South Nottinghamshire, North Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. The Choir performs three concerts in each season, including an ever-popular Christmas concert. We also hold a day choral workshop in February, extending a warm welcome to all-comers.'

'Part of the musical landscape of the East Midlands since 1991 ... Over the last few years, Nottingham Concert Band has pioneered the Playday concept, which has proved to be an effective and popular contrast to weekly rehearsals, formal evening concerts and outdoor events. Several months in the planning, each Playday provides the opportunity for band members and invited guests to gather for a full day of intensive rehearsing to work on challenging additions to the repertoire.'

‘Since its foundation in 1856, the Nottingham Harmonic Choir, Nottingham’s civic choir, has established itself as the premiere choir in the region and one of the leading choirs in Britain. In its early years the names of Charles Hallé and Sir Arthur Sullivan were among those associated with the chorus. At the beginning of the twentieth century its principal conductor was Henry Wood, later to become Sir Henry Wood, conductor of the first Promenade Concerts ... The full choir, numbering over 200 singers at the time, performed at the opening of Nottingham’s magnificent Royal Concert Hall, which has become the venue for the majority of the Society’s concerts ... Most summers however, we move to the sublime surroundings of Southwell Minster, where the friendly atmosphere and fine acoustics complement much of the earlier classical repertoire.’

‘We are a weekly rehearsing amateur orchestra which plays a major role in the classical music of the City and County of Nottingham. Under the expert and enthusiastic guidance of our Musical Director ... our standard of performance has never been higher. We normally play four concerts each year. Our repertoire spans all types of classical music and the choice of programmes is varied and challenging but always popular. In addition to local artists and a number of winners of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition we have featured internationally known soloists in our concerts.’

‘Over the past 20 years, NYO has expanded from just one orchestra to three classical orchestras and two jazz orchestras. These groups involve over 300 young players aged 8 to 19, representing some 50 schools in Nottinghamshire and other parts of the East Midlands ... All three orchestras are coached by experienced local professional musicians who support all the sections of the orchestras in their musical development.‘

‘Formed in September 1991 with just 14 members, the Radcliffe Ladies’ Choir has grown to a membership of 55 ladies from around the county whose ages range from early-20s to mid-80s. Since the first public appearance at Cotgrave Parish Church in 1992, the choir has given concerts at many venues in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire for various charities and organisations and hold two popular annual concerts in Radcliffe-on-Trent each July and December.‘

‘Formed in September 1983, the Choir has grown from 28 members to over 40 and has established a reputation for high standards of singing and presentation. The Choir’s repertoire comprises over 260 pieces of music covering 400 years and spanning many styles from Byrd to works specially commissioned in recent years. Several of these are sung in their traditional language including French, German, Latin and Welsh, as well as Russian, Spanish and even Breton ... We run occasional singing courses and workshops for newcomers to gain an introduction to Choir singing and for our own members to revise some of the basics.‘

'Our first show was in 1946 and we have performed at least one show every year since! We started as a Gilbert & Sullivan group, but from 1989 have performed musicals too.'
