'Founded in 1944 by Dorothy Hess, an esteemed piano teacher in the town. Not only had she many friends and acquaintances of renown in the chamber music world who were willing to come to play, but she had a talent for discovering young artists of great musical ability whose fees were still within the Club’s means. As far as possible, this is a practice the Club has aimed to continue ... Each year we arrange a series of six chamber music recitals which take place between October and May ... We have been able to engage high quality professional artists, many with international reputations, because of the financial support the Club has received from a number of external organisations, to whom we are extremely grateful.'

'Group of around twenty-five singers and instrumentalists, performing the distinctive psalms, hymns, anthems and carols that were sung in the west galleries of English country churches in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The Quire started nearly 20 years ago in 1993 when some local singers were asked to perform in a Victorian Christmas weekend ...'

'Formed in 2003 after various members of the Hertfordshire Concert Band were lamenting in the pub that there were no local big bands we could join to play big band music we had previously played in bands when we were younger. After some discussions we realised we had enough players to form a band, and so the Hertfordshire Big Band was born ...'

'An auditioned choir and always looking for good singers. We have singers of all ages. If you’re looking for a high quality friendly choir, look no further ...'

'Formed in 1994 by a group of amateur musicians who wished to make orchestral music of the highest standard together. Since then, the orchestra has grown to comprise a group of some hundred musicians who, between them, perform around 6 concerts annually, in a variety of venues throughout Hertfordshire. The orchestra represents the best of Hertfordshire, and draws its players and audiences from all over the County and beyond.'

‘Our current repertoire includes songs from shows, spirituals, traditional English, Scottish and Irish pieces. We sing a number of songs in Welsh, maintaining a proud tradition harking back to the Choir's early days. We also include one or two numbers which may surprise!’

Established 1921: ‘Today we put on around 4 concerts a year. We are open to all and welcome singers and musicians, as well as those who come to our concerts. Unusually we are both an orchestra and a choir, rehearsing separately but performing together’.
