'The main standard-bearer for live classical music in Wakefield. To experience the thrill of listening to our professional guest musicians playing approachable music, we invite you to join our regular audience at the ... season’s public concerts. By demonstrating support you will help to keep alive the fine tradition of these concerts which do so much to develop and enhance Wakefield’s cultural image. The question of funding continues to be a very difficult issue and the Society has not received any external funding for a number of years. This means it is quite a task to try and maintain our high standards but we always endeavour to get the best possible performers within our means. In light of this we are extremely grateful to our Patrons and members and everyone who supports the Concert Society.'

We enjoy working with other musical groups such as school choirs and other choral societies. We always welcome new singers. The ability to sight read is useful but not essential. No audition is required.’

www.wakefieldcathedral.org.uk/visit-us/the-chantry

Originally built by the townspeople of Wakefield in the mid 14th century as an integral part of Wakefield's new stone bridge. However, what you see today is largely a 19th Century rebuild by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Nowadays, the Chantry Chapel is often open for exhibitions, talks, and other events - including occasional concerts and recitals - as well as for regular services.
