'Started in 1968 by Gordon Clark, the Director of Music at Abbotsholme School ... There have been well over a thousand concerts, films, readings, lectures and discussions by many of the finest in their field in the world during the four decades that have followed. The vast majority of events are held "in the round" in the fine chapel at Abbotsholme School but on occasion, because of the nature of the performance, the Society has staged its events at major concert halls throughout the Midlands ...'

'The group is based in the village of Alton, Staffordshire, with members coming from the surrounding villages and towns. We ring on 3½ octaves of handbells and handchimes and give regular tune ringing performances at a variety of local venues.'

‘A very friendly and happy group of people! ... All parts - soprano, also, tenor, bass - need to be able to read music and should have had some part singing experience. We don’t commit ourselves either way immediately - there has to be some flexibility on both sides - then, after about three weeks, there is an informal voice test.’

UCS is a friendly choir made up of 40 members based in Uttoxeter with a reputation for giving concerts of the highest quality, presented with professional soloists and orchestra. Our success is founded on our long and extraordinary history combined with a simple single objective - to enjoy singing together. We have a good mix of voices and ages, but are always looking for new singers to join us ... UCS was founded 1881 – we are the 3rd oldest Choral Society in the UK with a continuous record of making music.’
