'We are an East London based teaching string orchestra for adult late starters, regardless of age, background, experience or income and we want to encourage people to play music. We provide a genuinely supportive and non-competitive environment and this is reflected in our methods and in the music we play. There are no auditions and from Day 1, even complete beginners will be able to join in orchestral playing ...'

'We bring together world class artists and local people in one of the most unusual and creative corners of London. Drawing inspiration from our area, we produce an annual festival and run creative music projects throughout the year in the local community. In an area often seen to be full of challenges, we focus on music and its power to bring people together, change perspectives, engage the body, emotions and intellect and to spread energy. Since 1976, we’ve been putting music at the heart of Tower Hamlets.'

‘The lead organisation for the Music Education Hub in both Tower Hamlets and The City of London. Working closely with all schools, we provide regular quality music and arts education opportunities for all children and young people in both Tower Hamlets and the City. We also work in partnership with local and national Arts organisations to offer our schools the best opportunities for enhancing their curriculum work.’

Formed 1973: 'Award winning society specialising in the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Our aim is the promotion and advancement of public appreciation of operatic and other musical works, particularly by promoting productions of the Savoy Operas. We put on at least one full production a year, together with several concerts, and are also available to perform Gilbert and Sullivan, Olde Tyme Music Hall and songs from popular musicals at private functions'. ALERT 'At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Chapel End Savoys Players, the members present, reluctantly, decided to wind up the Society. Much as we have wished to avert this, the current number of permanent members and other factors mean that we are no longer able to sustain a company that performs staged productions.'

Docklands Sinfonia has become a major cultural force in the Docklands - bringing high quality music to the area, staging ground-breaking concerts and creating a lasting legacy by inspiring generations of young people ... With one in every two children (49%) living below the poverty line in Tower Hamlets – London’s most deprived borough - few young people in the area have, or will ever, experience the joy of listening to a live symphony orchestra ... Our repertoire celebrates multi cultural London by seeking out innovative collaborations to reach new audiences. Our home is the stunning Hawksmoor-designed St Anne's, Limehouse ... In 2019, Docklands Sinfonia launched two orchestras following huge success in both our local community and further afield. Our family is now made up of the Docklands Sinfonia professional orchestra and our non-professional e14 orchestra.'

'Has been making music since 1974. The Band serves all ages and abilities: our youngest members are 4-5 years old; there's no upper age limit! We run a range of musical activities every Friday night at the Shadwell centre, from smaller ensembles in a range of styles, low cost lessons, and our "main band" where most players join in ... For lessons and most of the band we are a wind music ensemble. We do have a very small number of string players in our early music group ... All wind instruments at any level are welcome!'

'English National Ballet's move to east London will transform the future of ballet, both in the capital and nationwide. It will mean they can put on more inspiring performances, can develop the stars of tomorrow and reach more people through their education programmes than ever before. It will also breathe new life into City Island – highlighting the importance of embedding cultural projects into the heart of a major new development.' [Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London]

'The aim of the London Docklands Singers is to provide live classical music of a high artistic standard at affordable prices. The inclusive joining policy of the choir welcomes experienced choristers and sight-singers as well as those with more limited skills and experience. Weekly rehearsals as well as the high level of commitment, enthusiasm, mutual support and a friendly atmosphere help all singers attain the musical standard required to perform in concert. LDS gives three formal concerts each year, often accompanied by the Marcel Sinfonia.'

'The Monteverdi Choir have always focused on bringing a new perspective to their repertoire. Their real difference as an ensemble lies in their ability to communicate music to their audiences worldwide, as they go beyond the music, seeking to create immediacy and drama in everything they do. This approach has led to the Monteverdi Choir being consistently acclaimed as one of the best choirs in the world over the past 50 years ... Besides their independent existence as a period chamber orchestra the English Baroque Soloists also participate regularly in joint projects with the Monteverdi Choir, with whom they famously took part in the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage in 2000, performing all of Bach’s sacred cantatas throughout Europe.'

‘An ambitious, Olivier Award-winning opera company, producing innovatively staged, unintimidating, affordable and - crucially - high quality English chamber re-imaginings of well-known works and premieres of new operas ...  to over 50 venues around the UK each year ... We have a strong track record at reaching new audiences to opera: over a six-week run of La Bohème at Soho Theatre, 51% of the audience had never been to an opera before; at our performance of The Marriage of Figaro at G Live in Guildford, 31% of the audience were attending their first opera ... OperaUpClose moved into the Borough of Tower Hamlets at the beginning of 2017.’
