! Swanage KEY

‘We have been providing music and dance since September, 1992. Whoever you are, you will find Swanage Folk Festival a welcoming, happy and inspiring place to spend not only the festival weekend but if you have the time, a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.‘ Held Early September.

* Swanage Folk Festival

‘My name is Nigel Price and I am the incoming festival director. When I heard that the festival was to close this year [2017] I just couldn¹t stand to see such a fantastic annual event just disappear without a fight so I offered to do what I could to help it to continue. I promise you all that I will give it my best shot. I also promise to source all supporting businesses from Swanage itself where possible and, if I can¹t I will keep it as local as possible.‘ Held Mid July.

* Swanage Jazz Festival

'We have approximately 50 members and give at least two concerts each year which often involve both amateur and professional soloists, with the object of providing an enjoyable and enlightening musical experience for our audience and choir members alike. We also run "Come & Sing" sessions, workshops and take part in community events.'

+ Belvedere Singers

‘Open to anyone who wants to sing! We presently have 60+ members in all voice parts (SATB) ... We sing mainly (but not exclusively) 4-part choral music and previous experience is helpful but not essential ... We normally have two concerts each year – December and April/May but are also involved with many other events during the year with local musicians and singers.’

+ Purbeck Arts Choir

Typically offer one major production each year: ‘Newcomers are always welcome to come and join our company ... Our aim for the future is to entertain you, the audience, and in so doing enjoy ourselves!’.

+ Swanage Musical Theatre Company

‘We are an aspirational choir, directed by a professional musician, who enjoys working with enthusiastic singers, both trained and untrained. We enjoy the challenge of new music and are familiar with the standard choral repertoire. We have vacancies in all parts. There are no auditions, but enthusiasm and commitment are essential. We'd like to hear from you!’

+ Wareham Choral Society

‘A community wind band that plays at a wide variety of events throughout the year but we are no longer a marching band . Our music is widely varied and chosen to suit the occasion and the available players ... Wareham Town Band has always contained a mixture of brass and reed instruments and still continues to do so to this day. This could possibly be an indication that the band’s roots lie in some earlier Village band but this is now a matter of pure conjecture. Certainly the Wareham Town Band predates many of the other bands in the Purbeck area, which were formed around the 1860’s as Brass Bands.‘
