‘The Association was formed in 1932 and consists of around fifty members, who share a mutual interest in the Organ and its music. Most members play the organ, but by no means all, with some holding church appointments ... During the year we hold a number of meetings which usually consist of visits to organs of interest in Surrey or further afield, when the organ is demonstrated and there is usually an opportunity for members to play ... Occasional lectures or recitals also feature in the programme. Anyone interested in the organ and its music and heritage is welcome to join us.‘
‘Established in 1997 for the “Advancement of public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of Music and allied performing arts”. The Trust's benefactor, Mr H R Taylor, who lived in Cheam, Surrey, and died in 1996, was devoted to music throughout his life and wished to encourage the growth of music-making and live performance by people of all ages. Since 1997, the Trust has provided financial support for a range of musical activities in Surrey and adjacent areas. Through partnership arrangements with the Royal College of Music, the University of Surrey and certain other national bodies it extends its support to musically gifted British residents beyond its core geographical area ... Q: Can anyone apply? A: Only schools, amateur choirs, orchestras and operatic societies, and musically talented individuals based in Surrey and adjacent areas.’
‘The Trust was founded by Aidan Woodcock, a former member of the London Symphony Orchestra, and a pupil of Max Rostal. The Trust's main objective is to provide each year four courses for advanced students in the performance of chamber music ... The course name “Maiastra” takes its name from a bird in Romanian folklore with miraculous powers including foretelling the future, curing the blind, and the gift of song to make the old young again ... Our courses all lead to public concerts where course participants perform as “Maiastra”. We are proud to be told that our performing standard matches any concert anywhere.’ Admission is normally free of charge.
‘Bringing music to every young person in Surrey through learning, training, performing, networking, inspiring and collaborating ... We’re led by Surrey Arts, the county council’s arts service, which includes the schools music service. Together, we’re making sure that children and young people receive music education that is high quality, wide ranging, sustainable and accessible to all, with clear routes for learning and options for musical progression ... Primary Music Festivals are a series of concerts that have run in Surrey for over 25 years. They are highly regarded events in the school calendar with close to 100 schools taking part each year, joining forces to perform to packed audiences of parents and the general public.’
‘Operating across much of Surrey, the SOA provides advice and support for organists - whatever their experience and level of expertise ... Our continuing education programme provides topics of interest to players of all levels in workshops directed by experienced musicians. Subjects recently covered include improvisation, hymn playing, practice techniques, as well as advice for new organists, and those taking a first appointment. We also arrange visits for members to play organs in different locations, both within Surrey and further afield.’
‘Ensemble members are offered the chance to tackle an exciting and challenging repertoire, perform regularly in major concert halls throughout Surrey and take part in high profile concerts in prestigious venues such as the Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall ... Membership of County level ensembles requires commitment and hard work but it enables members to develop their artistic skills to a high degree, sometimes leading to higher educational courses, whilst enjoying the social side to the regular weekly rehearsals.‘
‘Aims to develop the fine tradition of ensemble brass performance originated by the internationally famous Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, by widening the audience for brass ensemble music, enlarging the repertoire, and providing enjoyment for everyone. Surrey Brass plays a wide, innovative and entertaining repertoire to a high standard, incorporating fresh influences from diverse musical sources including Classical, Jazz, Film, and World Music. Our talented musicians are some of the best players in the county of Surrey. We are particularly keen on encouraging young brass players and every year perform at least one concert involving them - hopefully some will join us in future.’
'We had a fabulous response on the launch night of our first Show Choir in Banstead on 8th September 2014, with singers actually queueing out of the door! It was an amazing night, and we were delighted with the enthusiasm and the wonderful sound our singers made. Our Banstead choir has over 80 members, and now with choirs in Dorking, Cobham, West Byfleet, Horsham and Guidford, Show Choir continues to go from strength to strength! Come along and join us, your first session is free, we're a friendly bunch, and rehearsals are always fun!'
‘Lists live music events, professional, semi-professional, and amateur, in Surrey & adjoining districts.’
