Founded 1982: ‘The aims of the orchestra are stated in its constitution:"To promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in the art and science of music for string orchestra; by the presentation of public concerts and recitals and by other such ways as the society through its Committee shall determine from time to time”. The orchestra endeavours to maintain a high standard of playing, many of its members having received professional training. Membership is by invitation’.
