Founded 1983: ‘Its players are local musicians, professional and amateur, from Stamford, Rutland and the surrounding areas. The orchestra has developed a reputation for its high quality performances, giving three concerts a year ... Friends' subscriptions help us to widen our range of musical repertoire and guest soloists and still keep the price of a concert ticket as low as possible. To illustrate our difficulties, the hire of orchestral parts for any concert may exceed £300’.

‘In 1951 Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players was born to perform exclusively Gilbert & Sullivan! This enthusiastic company now comprises people from in and around the Stamford area who have a great love for G&S and wish to see it continue ... The idea that Gilbert and Sullivan is old fashioned is far from the truth. Many of the Gilbert & Sullivan Operas are a satirical and highly amusing commentary on Victorian England and many of the issues raised still have some relevance now, some 125 years later. The satire and wit contained in all the shows can be applied to current events! In addition the music is melodious and happy.’
