‘The Rainford Band has a proud history dating back to 1976. It was in this year that members of the local Boys' Brigade Band met to discuss the idea of forming a new brass band in the village. The take-up from prospective members was very encouraging, and so the new band came into being ... We are Merseyside’s Premier Brass Band and one of the few elite “Championship Section”
bands in the North West ... We are proud of our heritage and are looking to the future with enthusiasm and confidence.’

‘1973 was the band’s first full season of public performances. During 1973 the band played in local parks, working men’s clubs and at the St Helens show. Joining the band required considerable commitment by the parents as the children had to be taken to two rehearsals a week (Wednesdays and Sundays) as well as performances and the average cost of a musical instrument was £100 (and at that time a brand new Ford Escort 1100 car only cost £900) ...'
