'Arguably the world’s leading organ competition. Its roll-call of past prize-winners includes many of today’s most influential organists. For two weeks our biennial festival celebrates organs and a lot more besides. Our diverse mix of large-scale and intimate concerts, talks, workshops, art exhibitions and fringe events offers something for everyone and complements the St Albans International Organ Competition itself. Events are centred around the magnificent Norman cathedral of St Albans and spread out all around this beautiful historic city. Important venues in London host additional competition rounds and performances.' Held Mid July [2017].

‘An amateur orchestra in St Albans that performs regular concerts of major works, and offers a more relaxed musical experience at a much lower cost than larger orchestras in the area. We have a policy of welcoming all ages and a wide range of abilities from St Albans and beyond. This leads to a varied mix of musicians which produces fresh and stimulating results. Abbey Gateway Orchestra is different to most amateur orchestras in that we don’t just perform full concerts every term, we also mix up workshops and community events, developing a large repertoire of pieces which we perform more than once over the course of the year.’

'Music has been integral to the liturgy and central to the life of the Cathedral for centuries. This strong musical tradition is continued today with a Cathedral Choir of boys and male lay-clerks, an Abbey Girls' Choir, parish and young people's choirs and an orchestra ... The revolutionary design of the Cathedral Organ and the inception of the International Organ Festival and Competition by Peter Hurford (then Master of the Music), raised the profile of choral and organ music at the Cathedral, and consolidated the worldwide reputation of the Cathedral's musical foundation.'
