'Arguably the world’s leading organ competition. Its roll-call of past prize-winners includes many of today’s most influential organists. For two weeks our biennial festival celebrates organs and a lot more besides. Our diverse mix of large-scale and intimate concerts, talks, workshops, art exhibitions and fringe events offers something for everyone and complements the St Albans International Organ Competition itself. Events are centred around the magnificent Norman cathedral of St Albans and spread out all around this beautiful historic city. Important venues in London host additional competition rounds and performances.' Held biennially Mid July [2019] - but supplemented by a Saturday Organ Concert Series in between.

St Albans Organ Theatre has a fascinating collection of unique self-playing musical instruments and is one of the top theatre organ concert venues in the UK ... The self-playing instruments range from musical boxes and hand-turned Organettes to four large dance organs including the biggest one ever made, the 121 key Decap Organ – named “England’s Pride” by the Belgians when it came to England in the 1960s ... There are also regular concerts given by top-named theatre organists and special events including Christmas specials and Vintage Afternoon Teas.’

‘An amateur orchestra in St Albans that performs regular concerts of major works, and offers a more relaxed musical experience at a much lower cost than larger orchestras in the area. We have a policy of welcoming all ages and a wide range of abilities from St Albans and beyond. This leads to a varied mix of musicians which produces fresh and stimulating results. Abbey Gateway Orchestra is different to most amateur orchestras in that we don’t just perform full concerts every term, we also mix up workshops and community events, developing a large repertoire of pieces which we perform more than once over the course of the year.’

There are regular opportunities for members to sing solos ... We normally perform five concerts a year.’

‘A local community singing group, and we have been entertaining audiences in the area for over twenty five years, raising thousands of pounds to support both local Hertfordshire and national charities ... It’s fair to say we have a mixed repertoire. We sing both secular and religious music, folk and traditional music, a capella and accompanied. We’re not big into show-music, but we crack out some pop music now and again.’

‘One of the finest large choirs in Hertfordshire. Since our inaugural concert in 1924 we have performed a wide variety of major choral works ... We engage soloists and orchestras of the highest calibre but also have a tradition of engaging young singers, many of whom have since developed international careers. We are privileged to perform in the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban, as we have since the inception of the choir ... We give three major concerts each season, in November, at Easter and in July, with two additional concerts every Christmas in aid of charity.’

‘SACO was founded in 1987 ... to provide performing opportunities for the many talented singers living in the area, and to involve young people in performing and attending opera. The company has a good reputation for providing first class music theatre on a small budget and is virtually self-supporting. An annual production at the Abbey Theatre in the spring is supplemented with studio performances, concerts and workshops in a variety of unusual and attractive venues.’

'Music has been integral to the liturgy and central to the life of the Cathedral for centuries. This strong musical tradition is continued today with a Cathedral Choir of boys and male lay-clerks, an Abbey Girls' Choir, parish and young people's choirs and an orchestra ... The revolutionary design of the Cathedral Organ and the inception of the International Organ Festival and Competition by Peter Hurford (then Master of the Music), raised the profile of choral and organ music at the Cathedral, and consolidated the worldwide reputation of the Cathedral's musical foundation.'
