Listing Details
‘Music at Morley has a long and distinguished history stretching back over 100 years to when Gustav Holst was Director of Music (1907-1924) and taking in Michael Tippett’s years in the same role (1940-1951), when concerts at Morley played an important part in keeping London’s musical life going during the war years. Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and many other leading names have taught or performed at Morley. Cornelius Cardew’s Scratch Orchestra broke new ground in experimental music-making during the 1970s, while the Morley Jazz orchestra and Big Band have been notable ensembles within their fields for over 30 years.’
