'Dorset's award-winning Music & Performance Festival ... Sherborne Abbey Festival is unique, being charity-run entirely by experienced volunteers, and also in its support of musical good causes. It is the event that gives back to the community.'

'Founded in 1952 as the Canford School of Music, a name it retained for the next 52 years before relocating to Sherborne School in the pretty medieval market town of Sherborne in Dorset.' Held Early August.

‘We specialise in Gilbert and Sullivan but regularly explore other musical works, including those of our resident operatic composer Neil Edwards whose first full opera “The Lost Continent” was performed in 2007. Productions are decided on by our cast and crew each year. Do contact us if you with to join us or have any questions about our shows.’

‘An auditioned group of about 45 singers from Sherborne and the surrounding region. The choir was established in 1979 and ... we thrive on variety and sing a wide range of repertoire, both sacred and secular, ranging from the Renaissance to the present day. We rehearse weekly during term time from September to June and perform three major concerts a year, mostly in Sherborne Abbey, both a capella and with orchestra, as well as a number of concerts at other venues in the area.’

‘A non-auditioning community-based choir of 140 people, formed in 2006, in collaboration with Sherborne Abbey Festival, to enable and to encourage local people to sing to a high standard within an informal environment. It aims to provide more local people with the opportunity to perform in Sherborne Abbey and to involve members of the community in Sherborne Abbey Festival.’

‘The Choir welcomes new members who enjoy singing including both church music and music of a more light-hearted nature. The Sherborne Singers give carol concerts in December each year, sing church services in Salisbury Cathedral and Sherborne Abbey and perform concerts of secular music ... Previously known as Wyncantores until 2013 is a chamber choir formed in 1970.’

‘A First Section brass band who play regularly in and around the community for the people of Sherborne and surrounding towns and villages. Since 1961 the band have been entertaining and also contesting in local and national competitions.’

Formed 1997: ‘The repertoire of the orchestra extends from Baroque to 20th century and no doubt will soon include 21st century works. The orchestra often invites other instrumentalists and singers to perform with them, either as soloist or as part of the orchestra ,,, Wessex Strings gives three concerts a year. These have been performed in a variety of venues over the years but increasingly the majority are given in The Cheap Street church in Sherborne which is an intimate venue with an excellent acoustic’.

‘The Abbey is available to a wide variety of choirs, orchestras and instrumental groups for concerts and recitals. Our main aim is to offer concerts of a high quality. Approximately twelve concerts are held per year and dates therefore tend to be booked well in advance, often two years, so we advise you to make any enquiries in good time ... The Abbey's magnificent pipe organ occupies a loft in the North Transept. It was originally built in 1856 by Gray & Davidson to a specification similar to their exhibit at the Great Exhibition of 1851 ... A major rebuild and improvement of the organ was carried out by Kenneth Tickell & Co. in 2004/5, most notably adding the Nave division, which sits below the great west window.’
