‘The Festival takes place during the anniversary of one of the very first organised uprisings by workers in 1831 known as the Merthyr Rising. ‘A small amateur theatre group based in the South East Wales area. The group was set up in order to try to put on productions that were just that little bit different. We wanted to be a society that has everyone involved. Quality of singing and acting is paramount and innovation and "challenging the norm" is at the forefront of everything we do. We enjoy ourselves and take great efforts to ensure our audiences do as well. We believe in nurturing talent and avoiding the pitfalls of bad sets, bad costumes and run-of-the-mill productions. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well!’

We are very keen to recruit new choristers and give them the opportunity to experience the pleasure of singing in some wonderful venues with first class performers.'

'Founded in 1981 by a local GP David Hiley who persuaded any of his patients who said they could sing to join him in creating a choir. From this small group, many of whom are still members, a strong society of some 50 to 60 singers has evolved ... As well as a major Choral Concert in November, the choir organises a community Carol Concert in Crickhowell where local primary school pupils perform along with other young people from the town and the audience is expected to join in too. 'There's much fine amateur choral singing in Wales and the members of the Welsh Camerata are proud to be part of that tradition. We are a small choir of around 25 singers and what makes us distinct is that we specialise in the authentic performance of early music - that composed in the eighteenth century and previous centuries (with the occasional, well-informed foray into later periods) ... Performance technique has evolved over the centuries and singing music from earlier periods often requires quite a different approach to the material. Our specialism has led us to discover forgotten masterpieces from an incredibly rich period. Many of our performances have contained pieces no doubt performed for the first time in Wales since their composition.'
