We are a competitive Band who take part in contests throughout the North West of England and surrounding areas. We are also available for private performances and public concerts to suit many different tastes and requirements. The band is comprised of a refreshing mix of personalities, ages and backgrounds. Founded 1963: ‘We are a group of enthusiastic performers who enjoy acting, singing and dancing. We stage a pantomime every year at the Lowton Civic Hall, usually in November, and a yearly musical show or Play in the Summer ... Along with rehearsing and staging shows, we also arrange social events, fund raising activities for the society, prepare and create our own scenery and costumes, organise and attend drama workshops etc. We also have a Junior section for Children aged 7 to 15’.

‘We have been based in Ashton-in-Makerfield in the North West of England since our formation ... Originally formed as a colliery choir, we continue to entertain throughout the country long after the colliery itself at Newton-le-Willows closed in March 1993, happy to represent our heritage and our forefathers and proud to include the word colliery in our name. We regularly attend mining related events, memorial services and dedications including Golborne, Maypole (Abram) and Pretoria (Atherton).’

‘The organisation now has three bands, the Senior Band, a B Band and a thriving youth band that has a membership of around thirty youngsters ... In June 2016 ... the B Band joined the Senior Band in the top 100 bands in the world and in doing so, became England's only such brass band organisation with two bands in the top 100. A fantastic achievement for all involved in the organisation.’

‘We are a friendly Society of all ages and warmly welcome anyone interested in becoming a member. We perform one operetta in May and a series of concerts in the Autumn.’ The Society was formed in 1968, taking the name ‘Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley Amateur Operatic Society’ - because those were the three towns from which the majority of the first members came. In 1969 the Society changed to its current advertised name: The Three Towns Operatic Society.
