Since 1967-8 has been hosting folk music nights at various venues in and around Pontardawe, near Swansea: ‘Over the years, guest artists have been many and varied including poets, theatre groups, magicians, storytellers, solo musicians, duos and groups, from here and indeed the world. Some of those were already famous, some were just starting out and for some The Valley Folk Club was their first inroad into folk music in Wales’.

‘The Circle was founded in 1999 to bring together local players of the classical guitar for regular meetings ... We encourage playing in groups such as duos, trios, quartets and whole-group assemblies. Solos can also be performed by those who so wish - members can take part in whatever type of playing they choose, and all standards of playing are catered for. The only prerequisite is that players should have some acquaintance with written music, but this does not have to be of an advanced level. The Circle generally holds two public concerts each year, and occasionally invites distinguished guitarists to give concerts, masterclasses or workshops. We play a wide range of music (not always classical!), ranging from early Baroque to, for example, the Beatles. New members are very welcome - the atmosphere is informal and the social aspect is not forgotten.’

‘Founded in 1968 ... as the West Cross & Mumbles Military Band. By 1970, the band had become the Mumbles Concert Band, and played under that title until March 1984 when, with the permission of the City Council, it changed its name to reflect the area it covers, namely the City of Swansea ... The band is available for hire at any occasion, and can alter numbers of players and music to suit taste. We give regular performances in the local community, and have also performed throughout Wales and parts of England ... We offer a warm welcome to new players of wind or percussion instruments. The band demands a certain instrumental skill of its players, but we try to be as inclusive as possible. We have a wide range of instruments for loan, and an extensive music library.’

Aim is ‘to advance public education and appreciation of classical choral music by  presenting public concerts in Mumbles and the surrounding area and through the provision of tuition and training to young soloists and to or for such charitable purposes as the trustees shall decide’.

‘A Welsh Male Voice Choir with a difference! ... A Choir that builds on Welsh choral tradition but is influenced in its approach by modern society and the general public's current musical taste.’

'Formed in 1965, the Swansea Bach Choir is made up of some 40 singers, many of whom are trained singers, music students and teachers of music ... Membership of the choir is by audition. The choir is noted for its wide and varied repertoire, and has received consistently high critical acclaim for its performances of large scale works from the Baroque. The choir invariably performs works in their original language and, wherever possible, with period orchestras, to ensure the greatest authenticity.'
