- Capel Choral Society
'Our aim is to present classical music of the highest professional quality for the residents of Mole Valley in some high-quality venues.'
'A venue ... where the very best traditional and acoustic musicians, small bands and singers can be heard, from the UK and often from further afield (USA, Australia).'
‘Brings world-class artists to perform in beautiful venues in the Surrey Hills ... A warm spirit of friendship and enthusiasm exists amongst audience members at concerts and we are very lucky to have such a loyal and supportive community around the festival. In fact, why go to Vienna, Paris, New York or even London when you can see international stars in the Surrey Hills? The Festival weekends offer visitors wonderful walking and many enjoy opportunities for pre-concert dining either at the venue or in country pubs and restaurants.‘
'Competitive choral festival for amateur choirs in the Surrey area, founded in 1905 by Lady Evangeline Farrer and Margaret Vaughan Williams, whose famous brother, the composer Ralph, was Festival Conductor for nearly fifty years ... April sees three consecutive Festival days at the Dorking Halls, each consisting of competitions between four of our member choirs in the morning, followed by an afternoon rehearsal for a concert by the combined choirs in the evening ... supported by professional orchestras and young soloists of the highest calibre.’ There is also a separate concert in March, usually of a large work by Bach or Handel.

‘Our Choir’s first rehearsal was in May 1910 when it was known as the Newdigate Choral Society. The choir participated in the Leith Hill Musical Festival for the first time in 1914 but it was disbanded during the first world war and then re-formed as Beare Green Choral Society in 1937. Both names were amalgamated in 1974 ... We welcome all new singers, there is no audition, just bring along enthusiasm and a desire to listen and learn.’
‘The Choir aims to offer a full and involving musical experience to our audiences, and we welcome new singers who want to contribute to that. Although originally started in the first half of the 20th century, the choir in its present form was formed in 1952 as Brockham Christ Church Music Society, later taking its present name ... We don’t hold auditions, but we aim for a high standard. We warmly welcome new members to the choir, and encourage anyone with an interest in choral singing to contact us. Whilst previous choral experience is valuable, a love of singing and a desire to learn are more important. Also, new members would find it very useful to have either the ability to read music, or a good ear!‘
Founded 1989: ‘A vibrant ensemble of talented amateur players, teachers and semi-professionals. We meet in Dorking for four rehearsals prior to our three or four concerts a year, enjoy working with excellent conductors, and working together as a team. We aim to perform to the highest musical standards, creating interesting programmes for our audience, combining classical favorites with lesser known chamber works and 20th century pieces’.

‘An active, friendly and growing choir of about 80 voices ... We warmly welcome new members to the choir, and encourage anyone with an interest in choral singing to contact us. While choral experience is valuable, a love of singing and a desire to learn is more important and we do not audition new members. You will be introduced to a Part Rep who can help you find the right Voice and place in the Choir. We will be delighted to hear from you if you are interested in joining Dorking Choral Society.’

Founded 1999: ‘A group of musicians who make up a fun, friendly and talented orchestra playing a wide variety of music in the Surrey Hills ... A fast growing orchestra, but it maintains the friendly atmosphere amongst its members that was the intention of the founder, Chris Hammond, as well as aiming for high standards of musical performance. We are very committed to providing educational opportunities via links with local schools, including having local schoolchildren perform in our concerts’.

’An atmospheric house with panoramic views across the Surrey countryside, Leith Hill Place was the childhood home of one of England's greatest composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams, who gave it to the National Trust in 1945. His grandparents, Josiah Wedgwood III and Caroline (née Darwin) moved here in 1847 and his great uncle, the famous naturalist Charles Darwin, conducted experiments in the grounds ... Feel inspired as you walk around a place that has been the setting for so much creativity, whilst taking in lovely views, listening to the music and relaxing with a cup of tea.’
