Founded 1898: ‘A community band based in the Surrey town of Bagshot. The Band is about 35 members strong and welcomes new players of all ages and standards. Our repertoire varies from serious to light and popular music ... The Band has had its usual ups and downs – poor attendance at rehearsals and engagements and conductors coming and going. However, a nucleus enabled the Band to survive and at present it is probably as strong as ever’.

Formed 1979: ‘Our repertoire ranges from Early Music to contemporary composers encompassing a wide range of musical styles. The members are local amateur musicians who aim to perform to a high standard whilst enjoying a friendly, social group ... Seven different recorders are currently used. The smallest is the tiny Garklein, descending in pitch and growing in size are the Sopranino, Descant, Treble, Tenor, Bass and Great Bass. In addition to recorders, the group features a variety of contemporary and period instruments in their interpretation of early music. Voice, percussion, traditional folk instruments and improvisation all combine to give the BRC a unique style’.

‘An exciting place to play, with a seasonal programme of interesting – if challenging! – concerts and workshops. The orchestra is gaining an excellent reputation locally for both players and audience ... Originally formed as Crowthorne Orchestra in 1991 by a group of players who’d met at an evening class at South Hill Park Arts Centre, the orchestra has developed into a full Symphony Orchestra ... The Orchestra has about 55 regular playing members who make music for enjoyment’s sake, and we are proud of our friendly and welcoming reputation. Rehearsals are of course taken seriously and the music we play now requires approximately Grade 8 standard for strings, and Grade 8 + for wind players.‘

Founded 1967: ‘Our objectives are recorded as "the study and practice of choral music in order to foster the public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance". A more poetic view comes from Ben Jonson, which is to cultivate "the voyce so sweet, the words so fair, as some soft chime had stroked the air", and gave rise to the change of name to Thames Voyces in 1974 ... We pursue a love of singing through a wide repertoire of works from early music through to the present day, whilst aspiring to reach the highest possible standards. We perform around four concerts each year, in venues based around Bracknell and Crowthorne’.
