Formed 1986: ‘We have a broad repertoire of songs, and we enjoy singing in a variety of styles. In our concerts we try to cater for all tastes and include something for everyone. ‘The origins of Strata Brass can be traced back to 1889, with the band celebrating its 125th Anniversary in 2014. We have been known under several different names over the years ... The Band performs around 12 concerts each year, predominantly in the South Yorkshire area. We also travel further afield & have taken part in the annual Durham Miners Gala ... In addition we take part in numerous competitions, winning prizes for entertaining programmes & technical ability.’
Founded 1962: ‘Singing has brought us together. We are from all ages and walks of life. Some are experienced singers and musicians, and some new learners. There are deep voices and high voices, young voices and mature voices, quiet voices and confident voices. Together we make music, and have fun, as a community who love to sing ... We sing all kinds of music from madrigals to musicals, from traditional folksong to contemporary arrangements, from beautiful religious pieces to modern jazz and everything in-between! Typically the choir appears in around twelve concerts or events each year’.

'A concert band based in South Yorkshire ... The band's status and profile dictates that members must be of a suitably high standard. As a guide this should be minimum Grade VI and preferably with some experience of ensemble playing. Ex-military musicians are always welcome, however membership is open to all of suitable ability ... Members are asked to be available for as many engagements as possible, which means attendance at weekly rehearsals and events is very important and a high level of commitment is expected.'
