'Formed in 1962 as The Ashbeian Gilbert and Sullivan Society. This adult society grew out of the Ashby Boys Grammar School G&S Society. This new society annually performed G&S, opera and operetta until 1993 when the first of the "modern" musicals was performed. Since then as the Ashbeian Operatic Society and recently as the Ashbeian Musical Theatre Group,we have continued to perform annually this genre of musical entertainment.'

'The Big Band was the idea of Ashby-de-la-Zouch  trumpeter David Bradford who not only wanted to offer local musicians the chance to play in one of the best big bands around, but to also give the local community a band they could be proud of. The band is now one of the best Glenn Miller/1940s tribute bands in the country, with many players living in the Ashby area but also players coming from as far afield as Birmingham, Northampton and Chesterfield.'
