Now with more than 200 members (and continuing to expand), it is one of the largest music centres on the South Coast. With three main concerts each season, a Wessex Young Soloists’ Concert Series, highly successful music festival performances, concert tours, charity busking events, visits to London’s West End and Southbank, a Centre newsletter and tuck shop, the CWYM not only offers high quality musical experiences, it makes it a lot of fun too. The Centre’s largest and best known ensemble is the Wessex Youth Orchestra ...’

Formed 2014: ‘Our aim is to provide a monthly event where ukulele enthusiasts can meet, play, sing, chat and generally have a good time. We do not have any ideas of grandeur - whatever your playing ability you are welcome to join us - and with 50 or more players, the occasional (?) duff chord is in good company! ... We do have “open mic” spots when some players perform solos or perhaps duets. Where possible we try to support local charities by attending fund raising events etc. But above all, PUPS is about ukulele players having fun’.

‘Rehearses weekly in the St Aldhelm Church in Branksome (Poole, Dorset UK). Written into its constitution is the aim to provide an opportunity for amateur musicians to play the standard orchestral repertoire, to develop musical ability, to enhance the skills of ensemble playing and to contribute to the local cultural amenities. The name of the orchestra derives from our rehearsal venue, but we are non-denominational, and all orchestral musicians are welcome.’

'Opened in 1978, Lighthouse was conceived as a receiving venue with the vision of injecting cultural provision into Dorset and providing a new home for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra ... Lighthouse is unique in that we are the only multi-space venue with four auditoria in the South West, and the largest outside London. We house a symphonic concert hall, mid-scale theatre, small-scale studio theatre, independent cinema, art galleries, and function room spaces. Our audiences can discover and enjoy an extraordinary mix of art forms, not possible elsewhere across the South West, all under one roof.'
