! Malton KEY

'Our lessons are tailored to the individual need of each student whether they are a child or adult. As well as playing for just for fun, our students also have the opportunity to enter for ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool music examinations. We are family friendly and have a comfortable waiting area with complimentary refreshments.'

‘The name “Chanticleer” comes from the singing cockerel in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Having begun singing under the mantle of the Malton Singers, in 1975 our choir adopted the name “The Chanticleer Singers” ... There are currently about 30 singers in the choir, performing four or five concerts annually in the local area. Always popular are the two Christmas concerts - two performances being necessary to accommodate all those who wish to attend ... All works are sung in their original language and the choir has experience of singing in French, Russian, Spanish, Hebrew and Finnish - as well as English and Latin!‘

'A 60-strong all-female community choir based in the North Yorkshire market town of Malton ... We predominantly sing in 3 or 4 parts, and perform a wide range of material from pop to gospel, choral to jazz and everything in-between. We take part in a number of concerts each year, many for local charities ... Our members range in age 21-70+, some of whom have been singing for decades while others are completely new to it.'

'We currently have a Senior Band, Junior Band, Learner Band, Community Band and a Beginner Band. Over 90 musicians in all. The band has always been a subscription band and rely on the generosity of the public for support.'

‘Founded in 2007, North Yorkshire’s Malton District Male Voice Choir is one of the youngest, if not the youngest, male voice choir in the region. For all its short life to date and small size, it has gained formidable performing experience throughout Ryedale and, more widely, from Newcastle to Scunthorpe.’

‘A non-contesting band with the aim of providing enjoyment and pleasure for its members and audiences. Playing engagements keeps the band busy throughout each year. Concerts are given at a variety of venues, including Churches, Show Grounds, Garden Fetes, Old Folk's Homes, Seaside Band Stands and Civic events. Christmas is also a very busy time. We use this season of goodwill to bring much cheer to the local people.’

'A community brass band based in Pickering ... Throughout the year we perform concerts at a variety of venues in & around the local area, and occasionally internationally. We aim to entertain our audiences with "something a little different": i.e. music with a "tune", played with a rich full sound, & delivered with clean precision & style. Anyone may join. If you would like learn to play, our training band offers one to one tuition, a loan instrument, and when you are ready the chance to play in an ensemble.'

‘Based in Swinton, a small village near Malton in North Yorkshire. The band was formed in 1936 by a group of ex-bandsmen living in Swinton who wished to resume their musical activities ... Now numbers about 30 playing members in the main band with a learners band of 20 or so whom we hope will carry on the growth and improvement of the band. Members range in age from Primary School pupils to some in their 70’s and 80’s. While many of our young players leave the band when they leave school and go on to university, many go on to play in other bands all over the country or even overseas.’

'A thriving performance venue for theatre, music, dance, talks, cinema and live broadcasts, plus exhibitions, classes and a range of creative activities for children. The management of the Arts Centre, initially entirely voluntary, has gradually been professionalised, but the success of the project continues to depend on a large group of volunteer staff and participants, and on the wider support and enthusiasm of our rural community.'
