'Has taken place since 2001. Inspired by the musical world of Gerald Finzi, it is a unique celebration of poetry, music, culture, and ideas. Drawing on the work of a wide range of poets and composers working in the English language, the Weekend explores the sensibility evoked through their art. It offers opportunities to reflect on a distinctive musical tradition, to speculate on what it has taught us, and what it might also teach us as we look to the future.' Held Early April.

‘The line up includes 5 sexy saxes, 3 terrific trombones, 4 trustworthy(ish) trumpets, a classy clarinet, 2 gallant guitars, 1 punchy piano, a brilliant bass and a driven drummer. As if that wasn’t enough, we even have our very own female vocalist ... Please note we don’t take commercial bookings, we know there are many professional musicians out there struggling to earn a living, and they deserve those bookings. We like to play to support community events and to help fundraising for worthy charities. When we accept an invitation we don’t charge a set fee but a realistic donation towards our travel & other expenses is essential to keep us on the road.‘

‘Founded in 1858, the Society currently has around 130 members. We are always keen to welcome new people and we do not hold auditions for entry ... We perform in three main concerts each year, in April, July and December ... The choir performs a wide range of music, from the traditional choral repertoire to less familiar earlier and more-modern works ... Rehearsals move quite quickly and it is important that choir members are prepared to devote additional time to learning the works away from weekly rehearsals.’

‘Meets near Bishop's Castle, Shropshire to sing and play country church music from Thomas Hardy's time, mainly from the English West Gallery and American shapenote traditions ... All singers are welcome to our rehearsals. We use sheet music, but you don't need to be a fluent sight reader. Players of woodwind and stringed instruments of the sort that might have been played by village bands in the 18th/19th century also very welcome. (No guitars thanks).’

'Ludlow Assembly Rooms opened its doors in May 1993 in the restored and updated buildings of the former Assembly Rooms, dating from 1840. The opening was the result of five years of tireless campaigning by a group of people who believed that our rural community deserved its own place of entertainment ...'

‘We are not a cathedral, although the suffragan bishop of our diocese bears the title “Bishop of Ludlow”. However, we are the largest parish church in the Shropshire part of the diocese, and civic and diocesan services are held here. We host concerts, organ recitals, plays and exhibitions. We are the home of the Ludlow Choral Society, and an important venue for the Ludlow Festival ... The historic choral tradition of St Laurence’s was first recorded in 1492, making it one of the oldest choirs in England, a country famous throughout the world for its unique choral heritage ... Today's organ is one of the finest Parish Church organs in the country, and attracts recitalists from all over the world.’
