* Wirral Festival of Music

'In former years The Wirral Peninsula sported several competitive Arts Festivals, not unlike the Welsh Eisteddfordau, and perhaps influenced by that Celtic culture on our doorstep. Regrettably the Wallasey Music Festival ,the Pensby Festival, and all the others have faded away leaving the Bromborough Festival as the only one remaining on the Wirral. This is the reason why in 2003, as Liverpool (our neighbour) prepared to assume the mantle of The City of Culture in 2008, we changed the name of our festival to demonstrate that we more fully represent the whole of our area.'
