* Kingston Upon Hull Musical Festival

‘Started in 1906 and, apart from the years between 1940 and 1943, has been held annually ever since. It has always been a competitive Festival and became hugely successful, especially during the 1950's & The Festival of Britain, the 1960's, 70's and 80's. It grew in entry numbers to become one of the largest in the country. Each of the Sections - Piano, Vocal and Choral, Instrumental, Verse and Drama, Schools' Dance needed a whole week of performance and adjudication sessions, each, using every morning, afternoon and evening. In 2007, entry numbers dropped considerably in the Piano, Instrumental & Vocal section, for a variety of reasons,but we managed to keep going, and now, with the input of a group of young, enthusiastic instrumental teachers, it is gradually returning to its former self.’ Held March.
