Founded 1936: ‘It was established as a competitive festival to promote and encourage artistic and literary appreciation by providing a platform for amateurs to perform a wide range of different aspects of music and drama. It is not a religious or denominational festival. World class adjudicators were engaged from the outset ... Over the years, many of our performers have become renowned professionals in their field’. Held Mid March.

Music at Lincoln is a contemporary, industry-focused degree for musicians looking to develop their skills as performers, composers, and collaborators within a flexible curriculum that encompasses classical, rock, pop, and non-Western music. This course connects practice with theory, tradition with innovation, and personal creativity with collaborative projects. As well as working with other musicians, students have the opportunity to work with dancers, actors, filmmakers, animators, and computer game designers ... Performance runs throughout the Music programme at Lincoln ... Performers can work in any style and genre, forming their own bands and joining the staff-run Departmental Ensembles.’

‘We are the County Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, an award-winning theatre group based in Lincoln ... and we produce major musical productions at the New Theatre Royal, Lincoln ... We have an established performance pattern of a two week run during the autumn season and, depending on the casting requirements of any given show, we attract between 30 to 60 individuals ... Our audition process is open to all newcomers and usually begins around March / April ... In recent years the society has managed to produce a “second” show (compilation style), of a reduced scale and duration, but spiralling production costs and falling audiences have led us to concentrate on the main, annual production.‘

‘A mixed choir of 90 plus members. Most of our concerts are given in the magnificent setting of Lincoln Cathedral. We present two major concerts a year, usually in March/April and in November, and smaller ones at Christmas and in the summer. The Society, formed in 1896, aims to be a happy Choral Society, where friendship and a mutual love of choral music binds us together into a successful organisation where musical excellence is the ultimate goal. We aim to give our audience high quality and enjoyable choral music which extends their repertoire and ours, offering diversity of experience to choir and audience and enriching the cultural life of the community.’

‘We are a thriving, friendly, amateur community orchestra whose players come from all walks of life and who have a wide-range of musical experience. We have a nucleus of experienced players, but we are always keen to welcome new players, of all ages and abilities, who would like to join us to make music. We emphasise the fun and enjoyment of making music, and so do not require minimum grade levels or auditions for new members. Enthusiasm is the prime qualification for entry. We rehearse weekly in term time and give several concerts a year, the proceeds of which go to local or national charities. Don't be nervous about taking that first step to joining us as we are sure that once you have played a few times you will look forward to each rehearsal and wonder why you didn't join sooner.’

‘Tuesdays are oriented towards complete beginners - up to improver level and you’ll get help and on – the – spot guidance from more experienced players with time to help you. We can lend you a ukulele each and get you started even if you have never played any musical instrument or sung before. You do not need to be able to read music at all for these sessions. Thursdays are for improvers & intermediates and are great fun but the pace is a little more brisk and geared towards rehearsing arrangements and the original aim of the band – which is to bring live music performances to the community ... We do not use any pre-recorded backing tracks, voice modulators or any other electrickery / karaoke – type stuff, we are 100% live and unplugged proper traditional style musicians. Only the bass is amplified.’

‘This band was formed during 2009 by the integration of the well established “Lincolnshire Concert Band” with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue ... Many Fire and Rescue units are associated with band music, and in particular parts of the country the association would be with brass or silver bands. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue for many years was indeed associated with a brass band, until that band ceased to exist – and the concept of the well established Lincolnshire Concert Band becoming associated with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue was born. The band recognises that it is now the public representation of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, and although band members are volunteers from all walks of life, they wear the uniform – which is provided by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue – with a great deal of pride.’
