‘Chamber music courses for string players - aged 6 – 18, all abilities ... Whilst it is always possible to find chamber music parts to suit every player at any level, it is not always so easy for very junior pupils to fit into an orchestra for the first time. We have addressed this conundrum by introducing a junior musicianship class which takes place during the time when the junior string orchestra rehearses ... The class size is small, but open to any pupil who doesn’t yet feel ready to join the orchestra.' Annual Summer School held Mid August. Also: ‘Concerts of chamber music take place throughout the year’.

'We encourage an atmosphere of open-minded debate and a commitment to all types of music from classical to world and popular ... Ours is a hugely varied department, and former students have equally diverse lives - from classical musicians and Mercury Prize-winning pop stars, to lawyers, academics and administrators ... Many of our events are free and open to the public.'

Our Vision ‘Being musical is at the heart of human experience. Our vision is a world where every person has access to musical engagement, transforming lives and communities particularly for children and young people, those in financial need and those in challenging circumstances. In a Borough where opportunities for engagement with arts and culture is all too often uneven and localised on account of differences in financial means and social aspiration, we will target resources to groups and localities where there are barriers to participation. Our high quality learning opportunities will enrich lives, support social integration and cultural regeneration, and enable the fulfilment of musical potential.’

Usually meet twice per month, afternoons, apart from December and August: ‘New members and visitors welcome’.

'A mixed chorus of some 80 singers based in south-east London ... Members are expected to be able to read music but need not  be expert sight- readers.  There are no formal auditions but the Music Director gives new members an informal vocal assessment, and is always willing to offer advice on matters of vocal technique ... There are three main concerts each year. Professionals take the principal solo parts but there are often opportunities for members to sing smaller solos.'

‘A vibrant symphony orchestra performing three concerts a year and promoting classical music to audiences within the borough of Lewisham and its neighbouring boroughs. Offering a performance platform for both local amateur players of a high standard and music students from local universities, Harmony Sinfonia also aims to work with local music services to provide performance opportunities to school pupils of an advanced standard.’

‘We are a choir of NHS workers, working in Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust. We first came together for the BBC Series “Sing While You Work” with Gareth Malone in 2012. The Choir is made up of a wide range of NHS workers, including doctors, nurses, therapists and many other staff from across the NHS workforce. In 2015, we achieved the UK Christmas number 1, with our single "Bridge over You", a mash up of Bridge over Troubled Water (Simon & Garfunkel) and Fix You (Coldplay) ... We continue to perform at both small local concerts, to patients on our hospital wards, and at larger national events.’

‘A large, lively community-based choir, with almost two hundred singers. Founded in 1950 by a group based at Lewisham’s parish church, it grew in size and ambition, marking its transformation by a change of name to Lewisham Choral Society in the early 1980s ... We are a performing choir, staging four concerts a year and taking part in other choral singing events and collaborations when opportunities arise ... Although we do not audition, the choir performs to a high standard and tackles some complex pieces which require a level of experience and musical ability. Rehearsals are relatively fast-paced, so may not suit complete beginners.‘

Founded in 1967, Lewisham Concert Band is one of London’s top community wind bands, comprising both professional and high-standard amateur musicians ... There is no formal audition: players should be at least grade 8 standard and will be invited to attend rehearsals for a minimum of three weeks before a permanent place is considered.‘

‘We are an Acapella choir who have been meeting in Forest Hill, South London for several years. We perform regularly at local venues and at festivals further afield, and make occasional recordings ... We perform a wide range of music from jazz and pop through to folk and world music. All songs are learned by ear and all parts are downloadable so that choir members can practice at home. We expect all singers to learn their words. All who can hold a tune are welcome.’
