‘Prizewinning ladies choir ... started in September 1941 as part of Ulverston Townswomen's Guild. Just a couple of months after the neighbouring town of Barrow was bombed, a group got together to start a ladies' choir! It may be noted that our friends, Barrow Male Voice Choir actually suspended choir activities from 1941 till 1945, but then their members will have been called up into the armed forces ... It’s good to know that our predecessors were at least as determined as we are!’
