'In 1925 radio broadcasting was at an early stage of development and the sound quality was poor. Gramophone records were limited to just a few minutes of scratchy playing time. It was in this environment that a group of local music-lovers decided to form a society to engage professional musicians to play public classical music concerts in Wirral, and so Hoylake Chamber Concert Society was born ...'

'We are a friendly group of amateur musicians who enjoy making music together and performing at concerts and small music gatherings. As a community orchestra, we pride ourselves on being an open admission orchestra. We welcome all players irrespective of their experience, age or proficiency. Our members span a wide age range and as musicians include those, who have never played in an orchestra before, to more experienced players who enjoy playing in an orchestra and give valuable support and encouragement to other less proficient players.'

‘Founded in West Kirby in 1983, the Orchestra was originally part of the St Bridget’s Music Society, changing its name to Wirral Symphony Orchestra in 1995 ... From small beginnings the Orchestra expanded in both size and musical achievement, and by 2005 WSO had become a large and vibrant musical body, and established itself as an independent organisation in its own right ... The Orchestra performs regularly in Hoylake and at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton; other concerts have been held in Heswall, Wallasey, Ellesmere Port and Chester. A part of our charitable aim is to be of benefit to the local community, and amongst its musical activities, as well as engaging professional soloists, WSO also continues to seek to encourage and engage local young talent in concert performances.'
