‘The Henley Youth Festival is a totally individual event and as far as we know there is nothing quite like it anywhere else in the country! It is a means of celebrating the talents and achievements of young people in our area and to give them experiences across a wide range of activities that they may not otherwise encounter. We support and promote the performing and visual arts, have some great team and individual sports events and also nurture other skills through workshops and competitions. The first Henley Youth Festival took place in 1994 and now well over 1,500 young people, ranging from under 5’s to 18 year olds, take part each year in about 35 different events and activities. The Festival itself takes place over a couple of weeks every March and many participants are busy preparing well in advance!‘

Founded 1975: 'Nettlebed Folk Club is now one of the top folk venues in the U.K. and is highly regarded by the Country's main Folk Acts ... The acts that are staged encompass the different types of traditional and contemporary music and song from the British Isles with occasional acts from Europe & North America. Most of the major folk acts have appeared ... The Club is also famous for its pioneering special performances such as "Feast of Fiddles" and Showcase concerts where we mix leading national performers with local artists to provide unique themed evenings ... The Club is a volunteer run, non profit organisation and takes over 12 people to keep it running smoothly!'

'Born in 2009 from a mutual desire of its founder members to share the gift of music and make it matter in a way that would benefit our local communities. As a chamber choir of around 30, we offer our members interesting opportunities to sing the more intimate works in the classical repertoire as well as the less familiar ones, and choral works especially commissioned by us when the opportunity arises ...'

‘We try to be one of the most “professional”, yet one of the friendliest amateur choirs in the Thames Valley. Our standards continue to rise under recent Musical Directors but we remain a firmly non-auditioned chorus ... Many of our members have sung in previous choirs but all you need is a love of singing: an ability to read music is useful. We have a work hard / play hard ethos and provide plenty of support for practice at home as well as additional sectional rehearsals and workshops. We drink in a local pub after rehearsals!‘

www.henleysymphonyorchestra.co.uk

'Founded in 1970 and we are now one of the leading amateur orchestras in the country. We attract some 70 players from across the Thames Valley ... The orchestra promotes an annual series of four concerts and engages internationally acclaimed soloists, providing high-quality classical music for the enjoyment of local concert goers. The orchestra was originally brought together to give a concert in a large marquee at Shiplake College one summer but the success of that concert led to the establishment of the orchestra on a permanent footing.'
