‘A compact, versatile, mixed-voice adult choir, performing mainly in West Essex/East Hertfordshire ... The choir is a friendly group, enjoying an eclectic but accessible repertoire, ranging from the 16th century through to contemporary works. Most concerts are a cappella and often include forgotten or neglected classics by well-known composers, in addition to music by new and lesser-known composers.’

Epping Chorus, formerly Epping Church Choirs Association (ECCA), was formed in 1972. The original choir was drawn from members and friends of the four main churches in Epping. Today the choir has around 40 members and we welcome singers from all backgrounds ... It remains an ecumenical choir, open to all, and we are hoping the new name will be more appealing both to potential new singers as well as to those who enjoy attending concerts. Entry to all concerts is free so why not come and hear us and, if you’re interested in joining the choir, please email ... for more information. The choir is non-auditioned but the Director of Music ... may wish to carry out a brief voice test.’

‘The Band consists of local players who provide live music for the local community. Although at present the band does not contest we are of 4th section standard. We are considering returning to the contest arena with the hope of improving our standard ... Our music repertoire consists of tradition Brass Band music as well as contemporary pieces and Brass Band arrangements of some pop music!! We are a friendly band who always welcome players who either wish to join or just come along for a blow.’

‘Harlow Chorus aspires to high standards and enjoys critical acclaim. It is one of the most successful choirs in the country with some 80 members drawn from South West Essex, Hertfordshire and London. We sing a programme of four or five concerts each year, covering a broad repertoire, with professional soloists and orchestras ... In addition to already established works, Harlow Chorus supports contemporary composers and commissions new pieces ... We also run ad hoc vocal technique workshops with visiting professionals. This encourages every member of the choir to make the most of themselves musically by providing opportunities to develop knowledge of choral repertoire, vocal technique and ensemble singing.’

’The orchestra was founded in the early 1960s. Membership numbers have varied over the years and are currently very strong, although we are always pleased to hear from local players who may be interested in joining ... It meets each Tuesday during term times preparing a concert which is performed towards the end of term.‘

‘SWEC is a friendly, non-auditioned SATB choir of 100+ singers, performing at least three concerts a year with orchestra and soloists ... We practise in a friendly and supportive atmosphere and aim to develop individual musicianship, as well as present public performances to the highest achievable standards.‘

‘Formerly the Parish Church of St. John The Baptist. The church was built by subscription in 1839-40 in memory of Charles S. Miller, a former vicar ...  The Church became redundant in 1979 and in the following year a suggestion was made by the Harlow Chorus that the building would make a good base. At the time Old Harlow did not have a community centre, the Diocese therefore granted a lease with covenants to restrict its use to serving the social and recreational needs of the area ... We offer a varied programme of activities and events for all ages which include concerts, exhibitions and workshops.’
