‘Aims to bring to Surrey audiences a wide range of music performed in fresh and exciting ways, all the time aiming for the highest standards. We are an auditioned choir meeting usually for six two-hour rehearsals on different weekday evenings before each performance. Normally we undertake three main concerts each season, which are usually on Saturdays ... All members play a full part in the organisation of the concerts by distributing publicity material, selling tickets, preparing the concert venues on the day, helping with post-concert parties etc.‘

Guildford Choral, one of the longest established choirs in England, has built up a reputation as a dynamic, forward looking and ambitious amateur choir. With over 130 auditioned members, all sharing a passion for singing and a drive to achieve high standards, we rehearse on Thursday evenings in Guildford to work towards presenting four or five concerts each year.’

’Guildford Opera has been performing opera and operetta since 1971 ... Working with experienced Music and Stage Directors and performing with talented soloists and an orchestra, we seek to achieve the highest musical and dramatic standards. ‘The GSO is now the only Guildford orchestra regularly offering a full-scale programme of 19th and 20th century symphonic music. The musical development of young people has long been a priority with the GSO: its “Tidings of Joy” concerts at the Cathedral see a large children's choir performing Christmas songs they have composed, and in February or March of each year five young instrumentalists of exciting promise are featured playing concerto movements in the annual Young Artists' Concert.’

 

‘A friendly adult mixed voice (SATB) chamber choir founded in September 2013, based in Guildford, Surrey ... We don’t favour any particular genre of choral music, but sing mainly a cappella choral arrangements. Previously we’ve sung early music, madrigals, gospel, pop, jazz, standards from the Great American Songbook and sacred choral works. The choir is small but ambitious, and aims for the highest possible standards. All choir members are experienced choral singers: many are music teachers or instrumentalists, while others are ex-choral scholars. Generally, we aim to strike a balance between having fun and achieving choral excellence! ... We perform several times a year in concerts, charity events, weddings, memorial services, arts festivals, recording sessions and competitions.’

 

In Accord is based in Guildford. We sing a mixture of 4 and 5 part “a cappella” harmony covering a broad repertoire of popular songs. Arrangements are written “in house” enabling us to choose songs we enjoy and that are popular with audiences. We can also arrange songs specifically for people we perform to, providing a personalised touch! We don't use written music once we've learned a song. In fact, we just sound a note and start singing.‘

‘The leading professional freelance orchestra in the South of England, SPM is Guildford's “principal provider of classical music”, delivering workshops, schools and community events and live performances in leading venues ... The Southern Pro Musica evolved from the need for a professional orchestra to provide support for choirs based in Hampshire and West Sussex. The availability of increasing numbers of fine free-lance musicians choosing to base their careers in the south enabled the orchestra to enlarge its area of operations to work with choral societies further afield and also to undertake purely orchestral engagements.’

Founded 1978: ‘The Guildford Barbershop Harmony Club (a.k.a. Surrey Fringe) was one of the first Barbershop Clubs to be formed in the UK ... We are a group of men who meet every Tuesday evening and sing a wide variety of music in four-part harmony. We currently have around 40 singers, although we are always pleased to welcome new members ... We teach people to sing and we perform at public and private functions’.
