'Once a week we come together to rehearse, sing, dance and have a great time. Many of us arrive feeling tired and stressed. But one and a half hours later, every one of us leaves on a high. That’s the power of gospel singing. We have two choirs, the Workshop Choir and the Performance Choir. The Workshop Choir is open to anyone and there is no audition required. The Performance Choir is a smaller auditioned choir focusing on a higher level of performance.'

‘Was started in June 2008 by a group of black youths who loved to sing and wanted to learn more about the gospel music style and heritage. That early group created a warm, inclusive and therapeutic environment, enabling its members to develop and contribute, and this captured the interest of others in the community ... We are now an independent, community-based, membership organisation. Managed by committee, we are funded by members’ contributions, grants and bookings.’

‘The Croydon SDA Gospel Choir is quite unique. It possesses the heart and soul, the vivacity and energy of a gospel choir, yet a diversity which is hard to find elsewhere. After all, where else are you going to find a choir which the press describes as giving a "superlative performance" of.... an eighteenth century Classical piece of music, sung in Latin with an orchestra? The choir's ethos is to be different, to stand apart from the crowd, not for its own sake, not to say “we are different”, but because it believes passionately that it has been placed in this world for a purpose - and that is to reach people of diverse backgrounds and differing situation.’

‘Our repertoire is drawn from a wide range of musical genres, and new songs are added each term. Since our choir started in 2009 we have learnt over 100 songs together ... Our singers, around 100 at present, come from all parts of Didcot and the surrounding villages and range in age from 16 to, well, we don’t care! We neither hold auditions nor charge subscriptions. You don’t have to be able to read music, because everything is “taught by ear”. The only “qualification” needed is a desire to sing.‘
