* Teign Maritime & Shanty Festival
Listing Details
‘Shanties were songs sung by such workers as sailors, miners and rail workers in rhythm with their work. They have become particularly popular over recent years due to the exposure of people like the "Fisherman's Friends". Teignmouth and Shaldon will play host to at least 26 shanty groups performing in 15 venues and providing over 120 hours of "free to attend" shanty singing ... There promises to be something for everyone, with multiple performances being given at the same time across a range of venues - mainly local hostelries - as well as outdoor ad hoc flash mob shanty singing and workshops where people can learn more about the origins of shanties. The event is also being supported by a number of South Devon breweries.’ Held Late September.
