‘Established as the Westmorland Music Council in 1945 by an enthusiastic group of people with a love of music, who wished to promote music-making across the then county of Westmorland. The Trust gives annual grants to young students to help with their music tuition fees, as well as supporting those continuing their music studies at higher levels ... The Trust produces a Concert Diary, which gives details of as many concerts as possible in the area, providing useful information to members and helping to avoid clashes of events. This has been an important part of our function from the start.’

‘One of the most important opportunities for young musicians is to meet together and play together. As well as being an opportunity to have fun and make friends, it is also key to improving as a musician and developing wider skills like team-work, respect and concentration. That’s why one of our main Hub aims is to create and support Music Centres and other groups right across Cumbria. From Barrow to Carlisle we offer regular opportunities for young musicians – whatever your instrument or interest.’
