! Crewe KEY

'As the name suggests an all male choir singing anything from medieval chants to the latest pop hits with traditional male voice pieces, opera, musicals and some devotional music interdispersed. Nothing is considered taboo or too difficult or easy for that matter. We are not an eletist choir and consider all "men" should be given the opportunity to learn to sing.'

+ Audley Male Voice Choir

‘A mixed community choir, whose members have a love of singing and enjoy meeting peiple and having a good time! ... We have sung a wide and varied selection of works, ranging from classical, folk, film, musicals and popular ... Formed in 1988 ... the group was established as an amateur, non-denominational choir, performing concerts in the locality for charitable purposes.’

+ Bunbury Singers

‘A second section competing brass band in the North West area and is well known throughout South Cheshire and further beyond! Rehearsing twice a week with a busy sechedule of contests and concerts the band is also a very social one and even has its own twin accordion band in Bischofsheim, Germany! Crewe Brass also has a community band which is open to any player of any age, ability or experience.’

‘Founded in 1972 ... and is now one of the largest and most successful amateur choirs in the area with a membership drawn from all over South Cheshire and North Shropshire ... The season runs from September to June and will typically comprise three or four major performances, with a number of smaller events, such as Singing Day, a Bring-it-and Sing-it and Carol Singing ... Our chosen venue is the Parish Church of St Mary at Nantwich. Often described as “The Cathedral of South Cheshire”, this fourteenth century gem was considered by Sir John Betjeman to be architecturally one of the most satisfying mediaeval churches in the country. The vast nave, originally designed for public performance, has witnessed many musical offerings in its six hundred year history, and its acoustics are superb.’

+ Nantwich Choral Society
Forthcoming Concerts and Recitals

'Founded in 1983 ... We offer a varied repertoire of music, from the traditional wind band pieces through to more modern pieces and music from stage and screen ... The band performs at local fêtes, festivals and carnivals throughout the summer ... The Community Training Band is a dedicated training band, open to beginners of all ages, including those wishing to gain confidence in playing as a group ... The Community Band helps players to gain as much musical experience as possible and strives to include a special section for them to perform in the concert programmes. Progression to the main Concert Band is encouraged but not compulsory and players from the main band who find they are struggling can always opt for a "refresher" in the training band. A few of our Concert Band members come to the Community Band sessions for the opportunity to gain more experience on their second instruments.'

+ Nantwich Concert Band

‘Founded in the 1970s as the “Tudor Consort” but changed its name to reflect the broadening of its repertoire which, as well as including music from the 16th century, extends through baroque, classical and romantic eras into the 20th century ... The choir comprises a flexible grouping of about 18 singers, some of whom are soloists in their own right. They perform regularly with orchestras and instrumental groups, as well as with organ or piano accompaniment, but at the heart of the choir is the enduring excitement of unaccompanied music, both sacred and secular.’
