'Amateur orchestra, the members of which come from the Isle of Skye and in Lochalsh. Thus it serves a area of about 1000 sq. miles, with a population of only 13,000 ... There are two concerts a year ... Membership of the orchestra is open to anyone who can play an orchestral instrument from grade 4 and above and new members are welcome. (Difficult parts can usually be edited to suit the player, if necessary.) ... There is also a Skye & Lochalsh Schools' Orchestra the members of which are drawn from the area's primary and secondary schools, and some of these talented young players also play in the main orchestra.'
