’The first Festival was held on 16 November 2006 in Nailsea, mainly at the Methodist Church, but with some classes also held in Christ Church. Since then, we have moved to Nailsea School, and there has been a steady increase in entries. We now offer classes in singing, piano, speech and drama, creative writing and music composition.‘ Held Mid November.

'We have been running since 1987 and over that time have developed a strong reputation for our concert programme which features top names from around the world. We also have a number of linked projects which develop and change over time and we hold a more traditional folk night (our singers and musicians nights) on the second Tuesday of the month.'

 

* Nailsea Folk Club

'Formed in 1980 to promote regular concerts and recitals, in order to enable the local community to appreciate quality music. As well as organising concerts throughout the year, one week each year is set aside as the Festival of Music, with a variety of concerts on most days.'

 

* Yatton Music Society

‘Formed in 1974 following the amalgamation of the Bath and Somerset, Bristol and the South Gloucester part of the Gloucestershire Constabulary. The Choir is truly representative of the force with a membership consisting almost entirely of serving and retired police officers, serving and retired members of the support staff and the special constabulary.’

CLOC is a group of amateur singers, actors and dancers based in Clevedon. They perform Musicals twice a year at Princes Hall. CLOC Juniors is for 8 - 18 year olds who also perform award winning shows twice a year ... All are welcome to join the club, be it as an acting member, a social member, a technical member or a Patron.‘

‘North Somerset's County Youth Brass Band, for new and improving brass musicians. The Band is open to new members with or without music experience. Opportunities exist to play the full range of Brass Band instruments, and percussion instruments. Formed in September 2008, and based in Clevedon, North Somerset, it provides the only opportunity in the county, and beyond, for young people aged 21 and under to: - improve; - perform; - and have fun making music in a full youth Brass Band. An entirely Independent Organisation the Band is a project of Lions Clubs 105 SW, which provides support from Lions clubs throughout the South West of England. Additionally it is a partner of the Music Education Partnership: North Somerset.’

‘Founded in 1925, originally as Wraxall Choral Society ... A friendly, happy group, open to all ages and voices. Anyone can join. There are no auditions, but obviously some ability to read music is useful ... There are over 80 singers in the choir, but newcomers are always welcome ... Note that members need to attend at least 75% of the rehearsals for any concert in order to take part in the concert ... The choral societies of Nailsea, Clevedon and Portishead are informally associated in the Gordano Choral Societies grouping, collaborating over the dates of their respective concerts and often offering reduced ticket prices for concerts and events to members of the grouping.‘

Founded 1995: ‘With many of our founding members still playing a vital part in the orchestra, along with the addition of many more new players, the orchestra continues to go from strength to strength and has come to be seen as something of a local institution ... We enjoying playing classics and light music and regularly perform Beethoven, Mozart, Rossini and Haydn, along with seasonal pieces, helping Nailsea get in the mood for Easter, summertime and Christmas. Regularly featuring promising young solo musicians and vocalists, the orchestra offers music for the young and old alike.’

‘A friendly, medium-sized, local, choral society with close links to the local community ... We normally hold 3 concerts a year, in December, March and May/early June, on a Saturday evening. The December Concert has one or two seasonal classical pieces and then a selection of Christmas Carols. The March and May concerts comprise further classical pieces although quite often the May/June concert includes lighter works ... The society welcomes singers in all voices: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. We do not hold formal auditions.‘
