@ St Mary's Guildford
Listing Details
'St Mary's Lunchtime Organ Recitals have been running since 1988. There have been some outstanding performances and recitalists from near and far have praised the quality of the organ ... Designed and built by Saxon Aldred of Redbourn the organ was dedicated by the Bishop of Guildford on 26 November 1988 ... The present organ is mechanical throughout. The great organ is situated immediately above the swell organ thereby ensuring an equal balance between the two organs (it also takes up less floor space). The swell shutters are vertical and cause very little obstruction to the sound when they are fully open. The organ is tuned to Werkmeister III, a form of unequal temperament especially suited to the music of J S Bach.'
