‘Peterborough had, for many years, a thriving Philharmonic Chorus. This ceased to function in late 1990 leaving this rapidly expanding city without any society dedicated to singing works from the great choral tradition ... Peterborough Choral Society was founded in 1991 to maintain the ... tradition in and around Peterborough ... We aim to have two “classical” concerts a year, with professional soloists and whenever possible a professional orchestra. Where works require larger forces we occasionally combine with other local choirs ... Our summer concert is usually a more light-hearted affair – in recent years we have joined with other groups from Peterborough to present a mixed programme of "lighter" music. We also have a Christmas concert each year, often joining forces with a local school in one of the surrounding villages. We are about 80 strong ... and always welcome new singers who want to enjoy singing major works to the highest standard.’
