‘Music has been an integral part of Durham Army Cadet Force since 1919. For many years this was as a Corps of Bugles based at the home of the former 1st Durham Cadet Battalion at Londonderry Hall in South Shields. However, following the demise in 1999 of the Territorial Army's Light Infantry Burma Band, the decision was taken to expand Army Cadet Force music in the County to full Military Band status. Today the Borneo Band (based in Chester-le-Street) comprises musicians playing the full range of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Being a military band, performances are given both as a marching display and in concert mode.’

'The Band is believed to have been formed by Lady Lambton from workers on the Lambton estate near Chester-le-Street well over 100 years ago. Earliest existing records referred to the registration of the Band as a Workmen's Club in 1893 under its old name The New Herrington Military Band. 'We are an all age concert band who have been playing together since February 2014 and would love it if you could join us. We welcome players of all ages and standards, to encourage inter-generational opportunities within our community. If you are bored playing by yourself and want to share your experience with others be sure to come along. The music we play (with a little practice) suits people of grade 1 to 3 standard and is interesting enough to keep more experienced players happy. Our bandmaster wants to encourage anyone to join us; even if lacking in confidence we always say "as long as you play the first and last note, we're happy!"'
