+ Somerset Chamber Choir
Listing Details
Formed 1984: ‘Since its foundation, the choir has established an enviable reputation for the quality of its concerts, presenting its audience not only with impressive programmes of varied and innovative repertoire, but also attracting the highest calibre of musicians to perform in Somerset ... The choir stages two annual concerts: one at Wells Cathedral in summer and one at King’s College Chapel, Taunton in winter. The choir’s size of around 60-70 singers means it can tackle a wide range of works, from a cappella renaissance polyphony, through baroque and classical music, to large-scale 20th century works with orchestra. The choir does not hold weekly rehearsals: it meets for six weekends per year (mainly in school and university holiday periods) to prepare intensively for these concerts. This makes it possible for people who have roots in Somerset, but work or study elsewhere, to be full members of the choir’.
