'In former years The Wirral Peninsula sported several competitive Arts Festivals, not unlike the Welsh Eisteddfordau, and perhaps influenced by that Celtic culture on our doorstep. Regrettably the Wallasey Music Festival ,the Pensby Festival, and all the others have faded away leaving the Bromborough Festival as the only one remaining on the Wirral. This is the reason why in 2003, as Liverpool (our neighbour) prepared to assume the mantle of The City of Culture in 2008, we changed the name of our festival to demonstrate that we more fully represent the whole of our area.' Music Section held Mid March.

We offer a wide range of services ranging from instrumental lessons, recording facilities to band rehearsals and training classes. Whatever your musical needs, we can help!'

'Long established group of singers who enjoy performing a wide variety of choral music, in both religious and secular settings. Singers over 18 are welcome. Members come not only from Birkenhead, but also from the wider surrounds of Wirral, Merseyside & Cheshire.'

‘A leading musical theatre company based in Merseyside. Established in 1926, BOST has evolved into a thriving, modern society of dedicated playing and non-playing members, who range in both age and experience. We have members who have been “treading the boards” for years and those for whom BOST is their first foray into musical theatre. We employ a professional director, musical director and choreographer, and encourage all our members to develop their talents. In particular, we take great satisfaction in seeing our young singers develop into confident all-round performers.’

‘Founded in 1991. Originally a ladies choir, men were soon added to the group and Capriccio was born! We are a local choir in Wirral, and enjoy performing a wide repertoire of music to suit all tastes in and around Wirral, Merseyside, Liverpool and Chester. Some of our favourites include romantic and modern pieces, victorian part songs, sacred music, "classics" and songs from the shows ... We have sung in many beautiful buildings and venues over the years throughout the UK, including cathedrals and historic churches such as Liverpool, Carlisle, Durham, St Asaph, Gloucester and Tewksbury Abbey to name just a few.‘

'Choir of about 100 voices from most parts of the Wirral specialising in the lighter music side of choral singing.'

‘The Band was formed in 1973 under its original name of the Wallasey Pipe Band and brought together several ex-members of the 1st Battalion the Liverpool Scottish along with several other pipers and drummers in the area ... We are primarily a community band but are also registered with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and compete in the N.W. England branch indoor contests and also at some open contests during the Summer when possible ... ‘Every year they provide a popular source of entertainment at carnivals and fetes and are also regularly called upon to play for occasions of remembrance by the Royal British Legion and other Army and Navy Associations.’

'We generally perform two concerts per year, in December and July, and have performed in many venues throughout the area, including Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral on several occasions. The orchestra has more than thirty players and its instrumentation includes sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass, great bass and contra bass recorders. Our repertoire stretches from Renaissance to Contemporary and includes commissions from composers who specialise in writing for the recorder.'
