* Jazz Steps Featured
‘Presenting the very best of contemporary jazz in and around Nottinghamshire ... Jazz Steps promotes, supports and develops jazz in and around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, working in association with a range of organisations and across a range of venues. With a focus on contemporary jazz, our varied and inventive programming spans jazz genres and is designed to engage a diverse audience as well as our loyal followers. We attract national and international performers on a regular basis as well as showcasing the talents of local and regional artists.’
'Founded in 1967 as The Nottingham Hammond Organ Society to cater for people interested in Organ music other than that heard in churches, etc. To broaden its scope it later changed to just the “Nottingham Organ Society”.
‘Established in 2005 ... to give the residents of Lowdham, surrounding villages and further afield the opportunity to enjoy quality performances at reasonable prices, without the need to visit big cities and large venues ... Initially aiming to promote four concerts in each calendar year, the venture has grown to the extent that around six times that number are now staged each year ... These concerts have featured folk, blues, pop, western swing, blues-rock, jazz and much more besides.’
'In the autumn of 1952, Len Hogg came to Bestwood as Colliery Manager and very soon afterwards the Choir was formed under the name of "Bestwood Colliery Male Voice Choir". However membership was never confined solely to workers at the colliery so that within the first year, the name was changed to the "Bestwood Male Voice Choir" which still continues today ... Over the years, the choir’s achievements have been considerable, having numerous successes at musical festivals and engagements with some of Britain’s finest choirs and regimental and brass bands, at the same time raising thousands of pounds for local and national charities.'
'Based in the Nottingham area of England where it was formed in 1908. With around 80 members the choir is now larger than ever, attracting younger members who will safeguard its future. It has a wide-ranging current repertoire of nearly 50 items - from traditional to modern, sacred to secular and from the serious to the light-hearted – enough to suit practically all tastes and occasions!'
'Established in 1983, and its main aim is to encourage boys aged six and upwards in their love of singing. It's a fantastic choir, and provides a fun environment for boys to learn a wide variety of music – from Bach to Beatles to Bruno Mars!'
‘A group formed in 2010 with the intention of making music for personal enjoyment, and to provide an opportunity for local groups and charities to hold fund raising events using music. The Ensemble ... is made up of two groups; a choir and an instrumental group ... Torkard Academy is an exciting new project which began in 2016 ... Thanks to the generosity of our local community and a grant from Nottinghamshire County Council, we are now extending the project to offer more young people access to music, including subsidised tuition and instrument hire. We aim to give young people who may not otherwise get the chance, the opportunity to learn to play an instrument and play alongside other musicians.’
