‘The spectacular coastline of Cardigan Bay in West Wales is a fine backdrop for this inspirational week. Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s MusicFest is an enticing fusion of Music Festival and Summer School; of experience and learning; of performance and appreciation. The engagement of audience, student, and artist alike creates the unique community atmosphere of MusicFest – “refreshing, rewarding and thoroughly inspirational”. Held Early August.

'Rehearsals run from early September through to our concert in mid-December, then from early January to the concert in late April/early May. New members are always welcome - no auditions ... Despite the good audiences that the choir's performances attract, ticket sales do not cover the considerable costs of mounting concerts with professional soloists and a full orchestra. Like other similar choirs, therefore, the Choral Society has to charge its members a subscription ... as well as running various fund-raising events.'

Philomusica is Aberystwyth's symphony orchestra. Operated as a registered charity independent of the University, the orchestra is nevertheless closely linked with the University and is conducted by the Director of Music ... Usually about 80 strong, a large proportion of the players in Philomusica are students who work alongside local amateur and professional musicians - some of whom travel considerable distances to play in one of the largest and most successful groups of its kind in Wales. Two concerts are presented each year.’

'Award winning Aberystwyth Arts Centre is Wales’ largest arts centre and recognised as a "national flagship for the arts". It has a wide-ranging artistic programme, both producing and presenting, across all art forms including drama, dance, music, visual arts, applied arts, film, new media, and community arts and is recognised as a national centre for arts development. Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a department of Aberystwyth University ...'

‘A great musical life is one of the strengths of Aberystwyth and its university. The close-knit character of the place really makes things happen. Generations of students have discovered the special quality of music here. Aber is not only a great place to live and study; it's a very special place for music.’
