'Sample live music and dance from Africa, India and Spain or enjoy everything from blues to folk on our two large indoor stages. The Festival nestles, bubbles and frolicks within the courtyards and grounds of the Elizabethan statley home that is Burton Constable Hall, creating a unique atmosphere.' Held Late September.

'Hull Musical Festival started in 1906 and, apart from the years between 1940 and 1943, has been held annually ever since. It has always been a competitive Festival and became hugely successful, especially during the 1950's & The Festival of Britain, the 1960's, 70's and 80's. It grew in entry numbers to become one of the largest in the country. Each of the Sections - Piano, Vocal and Choral, Instrumental, Verse and Drama, Schools' Dance needed a whole week of performance and adjudication sessions, each using every morning, afternoon and evening. In 2007, entry numbers dropped considerably in the Piano, Instrumental & Vocal section, for a variety of reasons, but we managed to keep going. And now, with the input of a group of young, enthusiastic instrumental teachers, it is gradually returning to its former self.' Held Early April.

'Millions of pounds is being spent on the University’s Middleton Hall to offer students some of the finest music facilities around. The centrepiece of the £9.5m development will be a 400-seater concert hall. The versatile venue will be ideal for classical music concerts ... The newly refurbished centre will offer high-quality rehearsal space for students and staff working to develop productions that will form part of the public programme at the University.'

'Recognised as one of the nation's leading amateur symphony orchestras and has been a major feature in the city's cultural landscape for over 130 years. Performing a regular season of three concerts in Hull's magnificent City Hall, we boast a history of renowned conductors, including national figures such as Sir Henry Wood, founder of the Proms ... The story started in June 1881 when a small group of dedicated music lovers gathered at the George Hotel in Hull and proposed the formation of an orchestral music society. With just 27 players, a devoted committee and loyal patrons, the Hull Philharmonic Society was born. Today the orchestra has more than 80 members drawn from local professional and amateur musicians, and enjoys a broad and loyal audience base.'
